Biography:
Marc Kirkbride's profile has grown in
stature recently due to his excellent appearance
at Colorsfest @ Enigma Superclub in Ireland, but
early in the musical career of the now-sought-after-techno-trailblazer,
he took up percussion and playing a number of
other musical instruments. He turned his hand
to turntables when he first saw the DMC championships
on the television. Marc started by mixing hip-hop,
and perfecting his scratch technique. It wasn't
very long before things started falling into place.
He then decided to start mixing techno music,
as personally he feels that this is the most innovative
form of dance music.
He points out, "The thing about techno is
that it is constantly changing. The variation
of sounds in the techno mainstream have got bigger
and bigger as time has moved on. Producers are
constantly looking for new innovations to keep
techno on the move, either by creating new sounds
or by adding a completely different feel to techno
altogether. In my opinion as a DJ, there are many
options on the style in which you can approach
mixing techno. Take for example Dave Clarke and
Umek. They are both totally different DJs in their
style of mixing, however they both have their
own unique style and sound which distinguishes
them as techno DJs."
Not forgetting
Colorsfest @ Enigma in the South, Marc has played
many a venue in Northern Ireland from Copperfields
and the Menagerie to the Front Page in Belfast,
and options are appearing in Europe, most notably
in Switzerland. His most prized gig was naturally
at Engima, but other gigs of note include when
he played in Belfast alongside Lawrie Immerson
from Pounding Grooves. The crowd responded excellently,
and gave him a mammoth reception, and led to Marc
securing a monthly residency in the Primal night
held at Wolsey's, Bangor. Marc's latest advances
include a slot on Credo FM hosted by Phil West,
and a possible involvement with a World DJ Day
event in the Coach, Banbridge.
And for 2004? Marc says, "I am looking forward
to the future, and the new challenges which the
career entails"
Currently
playing at The Front Page, Belfast and dates have
been set to play with DJ BamBam, a date in the
Coach, Banbridge (world DJ 2004) and a date in
May in Limavady, which is also in Northern Ireland.
